Criminal Defense
Jesse is a graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyer College (TLC), which is a 3+ week intensive trial advocacy course. Entrance into the Trial Lawyer's College is based on a competitive application and the training standards are rigorous. Many attorneys throughout the country apply for admission and most are rejected for one reason or another. In addition, Jesse has successfully completed the Trial Lawyer’s College annual week+ long seminar In Defense of the Damned which is held for criminal defense attorneys only. TLC’s stated mission is The Trial Lawyers College is dedicated to training and educating lawyers and judges who are committed to the jury system and to representing and obtaining justice for individuals; the poor, the injured, the forgotten, the voiceless, the defenseless and the damned, and to protecting the rights of such people from corporate and government oppression. In all of its activities, the Trial Lawyers College will foster and nourish an open atmosphere of caring for people regardless of their race, age, creed, religion, national origin, physical abilities, gender or sexual orientation. Jesse has also graduated from the 2+ week National Criminal Defense College (NCDC). Like the Trial Lawyer’s College, this school has a competitive application process. NCDC’s stated mission is: Pursuing justice by delivering the highest standard of trial skills training, through a diverse faculty, to criminal defense attorneys across the United States to ensure that people accused of crimes are represented by client-centered, trial-focused, and zealous counsel. Pursuing justice by preparing defense counsel to recognize and confront racism and implicit bias in the criminal legal system. Pursuing justice by inspiring and empowering a nation-wide community of criminal defense attorneys to transform the criminal legal system to ensure due process of law, effective assistance of counsel, freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures, and equal protection of law for all people. Jesse has wholeheartedly adopted both organization’s missions. He stays in touch with fellow graduates from both programs, which gives him an extraordinary wealth of knowledge not afforded other attorneys. Jesse has attended the 3-day criminal defense seminar put on by David Ball and the “Reptile” organization. This seminar teaches the criminal defense attorney how to vigorously apply reasonable doubt at every stage of a criminal trial. Jesse has completed the operator’s course for the Intoxilyzer 8000, the breath-alcohol machine used by all law enforcement in Maine. Additionally he has successfully completed the DWI/OUI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Course. The curriculum for this course is the same that law enforcement receive at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. He has been recognized by the National College for DUI Defense “for efforts as a criminal defense attorney dedicated to the defense of citizens accused of driving under the influence.” Jesse has worked on many serious cases. These include Murder, Attempted Murder, Manslaughter, Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, and Sexual Assault. He has also argued before the Supreme Court of Maine. Jesse strives to be at the pinnacle of legal knowledge. He exhausts all legal resources when investigating a case. He will tirelessly defend your constitutional rights. |
